I don’t consider myself a food snob. High prices on the menu rarely mean that you are going to get a meal that equates it to taste. In fact, the best food I’ve tasted in my life has been found in roadside stalls in Asia, where your entire meal ends up costing you less then two dollars! Once in a while though, I find a posh restaurant that actually gives you what you pay for. “Cream” in Perth is one of them. I ran across it through a
Perth Eguide I found online.
I started with warm Norcia bread covered with balsamic, olives, onions and possibly the best cognac paté I’ve had to date. The ingredients melted in your mouth and were a perfect starter to an amazing dinner. This was followed with a crunchy salt and pepper squid which was mixed into a creamy salad. The salad was amazingly fresh and complemented the tender squid beautifully.
My main course was an extravagant boneless lamb shank served in the centre of tomato, oregano, feta and roasted capsicums. It was quite a dish and I've never tasted one that wass prepared so perfectly.
For dessert I had the home-made ice cream covered in a blend of nuts. Really nice!
There's loads of cheap eateries to be found in and around Perth too and, if you go to Fremantle, don't miss the markets there!
